At Matarrania we are constantly learning to improve our work so that it becomes ever more respectful towards you and the planet, from every small detail of the creation process to the moment our products reach your home.

After working on it for a long time, we can now say that our packaging is more ecological and conscious than ever.

From now on, our boxes will include the FSC seal, which guarantees responsible forest management. In addition, the labels will be printed with plant-based inks, an alternative that reduces environmental impact.

What is the FSC Mix certification?

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is a sustainability mark and certification that guarantees the responsible origin of a wide range of forest-based products from around the world.

In our case, the boxes carry the FSC Mix certification, which indicates that they are made from a blend of materials sourced from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials and/or FSC-controlled wood (the latter reduces the risk of material coming from unacceptable sources, as it must meet specific standards).

Forests are incredibly valuable, and we must do our part to protect them. You probably buy forest-based products every day without realising it, and this is one way to help conserve them.

What does plant-based ink mean?

Plant-based inks are made from natural oils such as soya or linseed instead of petroleum derivatives, which are the main components of conventional inks. This allows us to achieve a lower environmental impact:

  • Lower toxicity: Plant-based inks are less polluting during both manufacturing and degradation, as they contain no chemical compounds. This results in lower air pollution and helps reduce climate change.

  • Easier recycling: Packaging printed with plant-based inks is easier to recycle, as the inks can be removed more easily during the de-inking process.

  • Renewable origin: As they come from plant-based raw materials, these inks help reduce dependence on fossil resources.

  • Easier handling: They are easier to work with, release fewer vapours and present a lower risk of allergic reactions, protecting the health of those who handle them.

The search for perfection

We are aware that no packaging is completely sustainable.

Even though we have found a more ecological formula for our packaging, that does not mean it is the perfect option. Both the paper used and the plant-based inks still have an environmental impact, generate waste and consume resources.

Zero impact does not exist, but that does not stop us from striving to reduce it to the minimum and to keep improving the way we create, manufacture and consume.

This change in our packaging is another step towards the goal we pursue and want you to be part of: a more conscious, more respectful, more responsible way of living.
