Organic cosmetics for a safe, respectful pregnancy

During pregnancy, questions constantly arise about what is good for us and for the baby. The most natural option is usually the healthiest at any stage of life. However, we must be more attentive than ever during this period, because even if we use organic and natural products, these can also be harmful.

The active ingredients of plants can negatively affect the baby during pregnancy, and even during breastfeeding, since some components can be transmitted through breast milk.

We often receive queries from customers with doubts about which products they can or cannot use during this time. That is why we want to set out in this post our recommendations regarding Matarrania’s natural cosmetics during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The only products from our organic cosmetics that we advise not to use at these stages are:

1.Body Hydrating Oil with cinnamon, clove, ylang-ylang, because it contains clove, which is not recommended in pregnancy as it is a uterine stimulant.

2. Anti-cellulite and Firming Body Hydrating Oil, due to its caffeine content.

3. Purifying and Nourishing Exfoliant, since it contains coffee grounds for friction and removal of impurities.

4. Beautifying Neck and Décolleté, because it contains sage, which is also not recommended as it has abortive properties.

5.Firming Night Serum for all skin types, since it contains cistus essential oil, which is haemostatic, that is, it interrupts blood flow.

However, the Firming Night Serum for sensitive skin is suitable for pregnant women, since the proportion of essential oils is low and poses no risk for you or your baby.

6.100% organic Regenerating Toner, because it also contains cistus.

All these products carry this warning on the box label, in the technical data sheet and on each product’s web page. The rest of the products can be used without any problem.

Not everything is negative, since at Matarrania we have a specific range for mum and baby care. These products are formulated with extra care, taking their special needs into account:

1. Anti-stretch marks Body Hydrating Oil. Prevents the appearance of stretch marks and loss of elasticity in the skin, leaving it smooth, soft and nourished. It can be used with complete peace of mind. Apply a few drops to your hands and spread over vulnerable areas with a firm upward circular massage, up to twice a day if necessary.

2.Gentle Baby and Sensitive Skin Body Hydrating Oil. Protects and hydrates delicate, sensitive skin. We recommend it for daily baby care from birth, for facial or body use. It is very suitable for infant massage, it facilitates contact with the baby and is slowly absorbed. Apply a few drops to your hands and massage gently, from the feet towards the heart, with slow, fluid movements.

After carefully turning the baby, do the same on the other side. Finally, apply just a few drops to the head to prevent cradle cap and to soften the hair and scalp. It can also be added to bath water. The orange essential oil helps them relax and fall asleep.

3. Culito sano. Nappy cream. Protects, softens, soothes and regenerates the baby’s delicate skin. Apply a small amount with a gentle massage on clean skin to prevent irritation or repair existing redness. The only thing to keep in mind with this cream is to avoid sun exposure on the treated skin, since it contains St John’s wort, which is a photosensitive plant.
