How heat affects organic cosmetics
“My creams have melted, what should I do?” It is a very common question during the summer months, when high temperatures affect the texture of some cosmetics. But do not worry: if you use products like those from MATARRANIA, 100% ORGANIC and free from artificial preservatives, this is no cause for alarm.
Why does it happen?
Our balms are made with natural ingredients such as shea butter, which has a low melting point (around 42 ºC). This means that if your cream has been exposed to extreme heat (for example inside a car, in the sun or near a heat source), it is normal for it to melt. It is a physical reaction, not a sign that the product has gone bad.
And most importantly, its properties and benefits remain intact.
How to restore its original texture?
If the cream melts and then solidifies naturally as the temperature drops, it may show slight changes in appearance: a more grainy texture, with small lumps or bubbles. This is due to the natural crystallisation of butters and oils, and it is completely normal in organic cosmetics without emulsifiers or artificial stabilisers. If you prefer to return it to a smoother and more uniform texture, just follow the steps shown in our video.
How to store your natural cosmetics properly
Although our formulas are designed to last, even without preservatives (with a recommended use-by date of up to 2 years), there are a few key recommendations to help keep them in perfect condition, especially in summer:
-
Store your products in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and humidity.
-
Avoid heat sources, such as radiators, fireplaces or leaving the jar inside the car.
-
Close the jar tightly after each use to protect the contents from contact with the air and avoid oxidation.
Other MATARRANIA products that are not balms, such as soaps, serums, body oils or toners, although not at risk of melting, should also be kept away from high temperatures. Body oils, for example, if very full, may spill a little liquid from the jar, as heat increases their density.
